Fiji consists of 332 islands with the country's capital city of Suva located on the South Eastern coast of Viti Levu. The north western coast is the preferred climatic area and the main entry point for tourists to Fiji, via Nadi International Airport. The area is also the favoured location for major tourism developments, of which the Saweni Resort site is the most prized.

Originally a mixture of Melanesians and Polynesians, Fiji has diverse multi-cultural population of around 790,000 people, with English being the official language. Fiji is the most advanced economy in the Pacific Island region and is politically stable being a democratic republic based largely on the British parliamentary system. Major foreign earnings come from the tourism and sugar industries. The Fiji Government is committed to accelerate the growth of the country's tourism industry to cater for increasing world-wide demand.

As the regional centre of the South pacific, Fiji is the most accessible and progressive country and the crossroad for air and shipping transport between North America, Japan, Australia and New Zealand. Fiji is serviced by international airlines operating on Trans Pacific air routes with connections readily available to any of the worlds major centres. Scheduled international services are provided by Fiji's national airline, Air Pacific, with other carriers; Qantas, Air New Zealand, Canadian Pacific, Korean Airlines, Royal Tongan Airlines, Solomon Airlines, Air Caledonia International, Air Marshall Islands, Air Anuria, Air Vanuatu, Polynesian Airlines and Ansett International.

Fiji is one of the most beautiful places in the world, a premier tourist destination regarded as the finest in the South Pacific. An idyllic tropical island paradise, a pristine and unpolluted environment, free from all exotic diseases, with clean air and water, uncrowded sun drenched beaches, unspoilt virgin coral reefs,  and  rain  forests and above all, the legendary and genuine friendliness of  the Fijian people.

Fiji enjoys a tropical maritime climate without extremes of hot and cold. Temperature in summer, November to April, averages between maximum 26º Celsius (79º F) and minimum 23º Celsius (73º F). Winter months, May to October, a maximum 26º Celsius (79º F) and minimum 20º Celsius (68º F).

A mountain range divides the main island of Viti Levu into distinct wet and dry zones. The Saweni Resort development site is located on the drier, western side of the island, which enjoys lower humidity, less rainfall and cooling sea breezes in summer. The area also boasts the highest sunshine rates of all the islands of the South Pacific with a year round average in excess of 7.5 hours per day. teeoff.jpg (16845 bytes)

The growth of tourism in Fiji has been impressive. However, the demand outstrips supply. The lack of high class (4 and 5 star) accommodation is now a real restriction. Official reports dictate the need for an additional 2,667 hotel rooms, by the year 2,000, of which 76% of new rooms required fall into the 'high' or 'premium' rate tariff group. The Saweni Resort Development site with its prime location features, size and scope of approved planning for immediate development, represents a major opportunity.
